If you’ve only got a few days off for your next break, the last thing you’ll want to do is spend precious hours waiting for flight connections, travelling to remote airports or sitting on a long-distance coach.

Though long haul and less visited destinations can be fantastic if you’ve got a week or two; if time is scarce and you want to get your holiday started as soon as possible, here are five fantastic destinations within easy reach of the UK that offer all the holiday fun you’re looking for.

 Paris

If you live or work in London, there are few European destinations easier to reach than the French capital.

Just two and a half hours by train from St Pancras Station, a trip to Paris doesn’t even need to involve a take off or a landing.

Lisbon

Enjoying one of the best climates in continental Europe, and with an old town so pretty you’ll think you’ve woken up on a film set, it’s no wonder that Lisbon is expecting record visitor numbers for summer 2014.

As well as a picture postcard cityscape, Lisbon is also blessed with sun drenched sandy beaches, great nightlife and fantastic food. Not bad for a destination that’s just a two-hour flight from the UK.

Bergen

Located on the rugged western coast of Norway, Bergen is a fantastic alternative to the more visited Scandinavian cities of Oslo and Stockholm.

Though once fairly difficult to reach, thanks tolow cost flights with Flybe, this picturesque town is now the perfect destination for an exciting weekend break with a difference.

Dubrovnik

Like Lisbon, Dubrovnik is just a few hours from the UK by plane and has a truly spectacular old town.

There are also plenty of beaches, islands and adventure activities nearby just waiting to be explored. In fact Dubrovnik has so much to offer that you’ll never want to leave its crystal clear waters and stunning views.

Amsterdam

Whether you choose to hop on a bus, train, ferry or plane the short journey to Amsterdam is always easy.

Spend your days wondering around the city’s canals, exploring its museums and galleries or simply soaking up the culture in one of the Dutch capital’s many bars, cafes and restaurants.

With so many fantastic destinations with easy reach of the UK, there’s no excuse to stay at home this summer, so why not pack your bags now and make your next break one to remember?
